| Action for Sustainable Living (AfSL) is a charity that helps people to live more sustainably, focusing on simple changes that will make the world a better place to live in. We're currently active in Manchester and Trafford, and are open to working in other parts of the UK.
Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) offers solutions to some of the most serious challenges facing our planet and the human race, such as climate change, pollution and the waste of precious resources. We demonstrate practical ways of addressing these problems. Leading by example, we aim to show that living more sustainably is not only easy to attain but can provide a better quality of life. Averting a massive environmental disaster is not out of our reach, although if we continue to treat the early signs with apathy, it soon will be. Emerge is one of the original pioneers of waste recycling in Manchester, Emerge (East Manchester Environment and Resources Group emerge) is a social enterprise with over 10 years experience of empowering individuals, businesses and communities to reduce, re-use and recycle. Passionate about conserving resources, improving the environment, and making our local communities sustainable, the emerge team are the ‘3Rs’ experts in Manchester. The Kindling Trust is a fledgling not-for-profit social entreprise with charitable aims working to establish a radical and pioneering social change centre and enterprise zone, based in the rural North West of England researching, demonstrating and supporting others to work towards an e cological and just society. Limited Resources sells fresh organic food and green products in Greater Manchester and North Cheshire. Low-Impact Living Initiative is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to help people reduce their impact on the environment, improve their quality of life, gain new skills, live in a healthier and more satisfying way, have fun and save money MERCi is an independent charity (established in 1996) working to make Manchester more sustainable. By this, we mean a prosperous city that is greener, safer, healthier and more equitable. Middlewood Trust runs a study centre in North Lancashire, UK. It was established to promote environmental courses that would address the growing concern about long term damage to the environment. Permaculture is about creating sustainable human habitats by following nature's patterns. An ecological design system that inspires and empowers us to create our own solutions to local and global problems. Web Angels delivers web resourses including : websites, wikis, blogs and associated training to community groups in Greater Manchester and Cheshire as part of Manchester Metropolitan University's Public Engagement Programme. Wesley Community Furniture The Wesley supplies furniture, domestic appliances, household goods and clothing at the lowest possible prices to those in greatest need from all over the City of Manchester. Their vans can collect donations of most household items city wide. These are then sorted, stored and sold from their two shops and delivered (free of charge) to those in need. Most of the work of the project is carried out by volunteers, and all money they make is used so that they can continue to provide the service. Work for Change is a co-operative made up of tenants of the workspace at 41 Old Birley Street, in Hulme, opposite Hulme Community Garden Centre. It is a company limited by guarantee, with co-operative rules. Work for Change rents space on flexible terms to local, ethical, and cultural businesses. The company aims to create a supportive atmosphere for small businesses to succeed, welcoming both existing and new start businesses. |
